“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” — 1 Corinthians 12:7
The Church has always needed the fire of the Holy Spirit, and the Charismatic Renewal has been one of God’s instruments for rekindling that fire in our time. To our brothers and sisters in prayer groups and renewal movements within this parish: your enthusiasm for the Lord is a gift, and we thank God for you.
Yet every gift is given “for the common good”. A charism that does not serve the unity of the parish quietly becomes its opposite. We appeal to our charismatic friends: bring your fervour into the heart of the parish family — into the Jumuiyas, the liturgical ministries, the works of mercy. Let your prayer lead you to the altar rail and to the door of the poor neighbour, not only to the prayer room.
And let us all remember that true charismatic fervour is marked by obedience to the Church, love for the sacraments, and humility. The Holy Spirit is the soul of the whole Church — not of one movement — and He is given most fully where He is sought most humbly.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of Your love. Amen.
