Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” — John 6:51

Today the Church kneels before the mystery she lives by. On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, we proclaim what we receive at every Mass: that Jesus Christ, true God and true man, is wholly present — Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity — under the appearance of bread and wine. This is not a symbol or a memory only; it is the Lord Himself, Emmanuel, God-with-us on our altars.

Corpus Christi invites two responses from the heart. The first is adoration: if this is truly the Lord, then an hour spent before Him in the Blessed Sacrament is the most precious hour of our week. The second is communion: we who eat the one Bread become the one Body, so the Eucharist commits us to unity — in our families, our Jumuiyas and our parish. We cannot adore the Body on the altar while ignoring the member who suffers beside us.

Let us also bring Christ to the streets. The Church processes with the Blessed Sacrament through the city to say: this world belongs to Him. When we carry Him in procession, we carry Him to the sick at home, to the workplace on Monday, to the marketplace and the classroom.

O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine. Amen.
