“Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence.” — 1 Peter 3:15-16
Every baptised Catholic is sent. The Church does not evangelise only through priests and catechists; she evangelises through mothers at the market, young people on campus, workers in the matatu, and farmers on the slopes of our hills. But the effectiveness of our witness depends less on our words than on our attitudes.
The attitudes the Gospel asks of us
- Joy. A sour-faced Christian contradicts the Good News. People should see in us a peace the world cannot give.
- Respect. We propose, we do not impose. Every person we meet is a beloved child of God on their own journey.
- Consistency. Our lives must answer the questions our mouths raise. Evangelism begins long before the first word about Jesus.
- Perseverance. Seeds are sown today and harvested years later — often by someone else. God gives the growth.
Our parish exists for mission. Each Jumuiya, each choir member, each altar server, each parent teaching a child to make the Sign of the Cross is doing the work of evangelisation. Let us do it gently, joyfully, and without fear.
Lord Jesus, send labourers into Your harvest, and begin with us. Make our lives a Gospel people can read. Amen.
